Manifestation Without Action
Manifestation, especially in the self-help space, is quite the popular buzzword. Manifestation in this context is the concept of focusing on, and believing in, your dreams so much that they become a reality. Some people take it a step further and say you are essentially changing the frequency you exist on by manifesting. This manifestation frequency is thought to make it more likely that what you are manifesting will find its way to you. Regardless of what level of belief in manifestation, those who promote it seem pretty confident that manifestation is the key to achievement. No offense to this idea, but what a load of horseshit (okay, maybe some offense).
Don’t get me wrong, I think manifesting is a wonderful step toward dreams and goals. You would not believe what I was able to manifest into existence as a kid. Full of endless confidence, I trusted the universe to give me everything I could ever dream of. I’d spend hours daydreaming about anything and everything I wanted and it was incredible what I could make come to life just by believing. Or was it just by believing? Not even close. The manifesting was just the first step of the process. The very crucial next step was taking action.
Manifesting without action is like trying to get in shape by putting on running shoes. Putting on my running shoes might make me feel like I took a step in the right direction, but I could do that every day for years and I still wouldn’t get any closer to my goal. This is the very reason why I think pushing manifestation as the magic key to success can be an extremely negative influence. If I feel like I’m doing the work by just manifesting, that’s all I’m ever going to do. I’ll wake up in five years in the exact same place because the truth is all I did was think about achieving my goals instead of putting in any work to get there.
To be clear, any harshness coming through in this is directed at me. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about solutions to my problems and ways to achieve my wildest dreams, but I’ve taken little to no tangible action. Somewhere along the way, I got so wrapped up in analysis and manifestation that I forgot how important it is to set that aside and take a physical step forward. Knowing all of the steps I should take and thinking about what my life will look like on the other side is a wonderful thing. However, it is not as wonderful as actually getting myself to the other side. Action is the name of the game. I’ve done the strategizing, now I’m ready to play. Do you spend more time manifesting than you do on making progress toward your goals? If so, what is one action step you could take today?
